--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I was in Corfu town ,on Corfu island, and came across this day trip to Albania. At the time i travelled a passport and day visa was required. The month was October and the weather lovely. The price included , ferry to Saranda, coach ( bus) with guide, to the ancient city of Butrint ruins. and lunch, (not drinks.} Albania is a lovely country, and the coach to Butrint was through olive groves. They were harvesting the olives, i say harvesting because they don"t pick the olives.Large sheets are on the ground and the tree is shook vigorously for the olives to fall of into the sheets. ---------------Saranda is a resort and port city on the Albanian Riviera in Southern Albania, opposite the Greek island of Corfu. Saranda is on a horseshoe shaped bay with a promenade and pretty streets. The Euro or local currency can be used.--- Butrint is from the 8th century BC. and is a World Heritage site. I enjoyed my day trip, i don"t usually go on organised tours , but i would not have been able to do this on my own.-----------------A bit of informaton, Albania was closed to tourists for most of the 20th century. After years of Communism it is now open. Stunning mountains, Greek and Roman archaeology sites, mostly good beaches ,a lovely place.---Saranda once a little fishing village is now a thriving city and resort, with Art Gallery, Information centre, 5th century Synagogue in town, and a museum of Archaeology near the harbour.etc, and Butrint archaeological site nearby.
